Look inside

In this liveProject, you’ll develop a detailed dashboard for serving complex data to medical scientists working on a cure for cancer. Using the R language and Shiny framework, you’ll develop a dashboard that allows easy querying of different facets of the dataset using a web-based GUI. You’ll work to preprocess your dataset for efficient access, and refine and deploy the dashboard to your company’s web servers. When you’re done, you’ll have built a working prototype of an in-demand piece of data software.

This project is designed for learning purposes and is not a complete, production-ready application or solution.

book resources

When you start your liveProject, you get full access to the following books for 90 days.

project author

Konrad Rudolph
Konrad holds a PhD in computational genomics from the University of Cambridge. He has worked in public research as well as in industry, most recently as a senior research engineer for a startup company specializing in genomic data compression. He has two decades’ worth of experience in software engineering. In his current position, he holds a hybrid role in full-stack software development and data-driven genomic research. He has taught numerous courses and workshops on topics in software development and genomic research.

prerequisites

This project is for programmers and data scientists who wish to learn how to present biological data in interactive dashboards, how to work with genomic data, and how to deploy R projects into production. To begin this liveProject you will need to be familiar with the following:

TOOLS
  • Intermediate R
TECHNIQUES
  • Basics of package development

you will learn

In this liveProject, you’ll learn to develop powerful and interactive visualizations using the R language. You’ll build intuitive GUI dashboards that help scientists understand the data they are working with, and master deploying those dashboards to production.

  • Setting up a reproducible environment for an exploratory data project
  • Working with cancer genomic data
  • Creating standard cancer data diagnostic plots
  • Creating an R dashboard package
  • Deploying an R dashboard application
