Look inside

What is a regular expression"?

A regular expression, also known as Regex or RE, is a sequence of characters that forms a search pattern, used primarily to find, match, validate, and manipulate text strings. REs have dominated the data processing field for decades, and are still as popular as ever for rapidly detecting, filtering, and managing large volumes of data.

REs should be part of every programmer’s toolkit, but newbies often find them difficult to understand at first. This course has been designed with new software developers in mind. To help build your confidence, the learning experience begins slowly, and includes lots of hands-on practice exercises. But it covers the complete set of what you need to know, including wildcards, escape sequences, greedy matches, character classes, set matching, match negation, group matching and naming. You’ll also learn about looking ahead and behind syntax, and work with the modern Perl and Python extensions.

Regular Expressions make your data detection, extraction, and management chores a lot easier, and here’s your chance to learn them from the ground up.

Distributed by Manning Publications

This course was created independently by Randall Nagy and is distributed by Manning through our exclusive liveVideo platform.
