DESCRIPTION

It's not an easy task to model a business process and then accurately implement it as an application. Activiti, an open source process engine developed by jBPM founders Tom Baeyens and Joram Barrez and funded by Alfresco, uses BPMN 2.0 (Business Process Modeling Notation) to provide a standard way to capture business processes and to convert those models into executable code. It's lightweight and integrates seamlessly with standard application software such as Spring. Activiti also includes a set of design and management tools that help you get productive quickly, even if you've never used a process engine.

Activiti in Action is a comprehensive tutorial designed to introduce developers to the world of business process modeling using Activiti. Before diving into the nuts and bolts of Activiti, this book presents a solid introduction to BPMN 2.0 from a developer's perspective. You quickly move to examples and best practices that show you how to implement BPMN 2.0 processes with Activiti. You'll explore all the key areas of process modeling, including workflow, ESB usage, process monitoring, event handling, business rule engines, and document management integration.

The authors approach the BPMN 2.0 standard from a practical perspective, showing real-world examples. Any developer or architect working with BPM will appreciate the ready-to-use solutions and real-world examples. Along the way, you'll see how Activiti works in enterprise Java applications.
