What is MEAP?

Buy now through MEAP (Manning Early Access Program) and get early access to the book, chapter by chapter, as soon as they become available. By subscribing to MEAP chapters, you get an opportunity to participate in the most sensitive, final piece of the publishing cycle by offering feedback to the author. Reader feedback to the author is welcome in the Author Online forums. After all chapters are released, you will be able to download the complete edited ebook. If you order the print edition, we will ship it to you upon release, direct from the bindery, weeks before it is widely available elsewhere.

MEAP FAQs

Q: Does a MEAP book cost more than a regular Manning ebook or printed book?
There is no extra charge - the price is the same as if you were only ordering a print or an ebook, but with MEAP you get early access to the content, and receive the ebook and/or print book when it's ready.

Q: How do I order a MEAP subscription?
A: Just as you would a book. After check out, you will receive first a confirmation email, and then a second email with the download link. You will receive the most recent update to the MEAPed title. As the author finishes each chapter you will receive update links automatically. When the final ebook is posted you will receive that download link as well.

Q: When will I get each chapter?
A: Each time a chapter is posted or updated, it will be added to the ebook file and you will receive the updated file. MEAP books are in the process of being published. MEAP chapters will be released as soon as they are completed by the author but before they have passed though Manning's final editorial and technical review. In this way we are giving our readers an opportunity to participate in the most sensitive, final piece of the publishing cycle, the end stage when the book gets its final polishing, correcting and if necessary even adding and/or rewriting. While we try to release chapters on a regular monthly basis during the subscription period, the schedule can sometimes change or be delayed based on a variety of factors, including the authors' professional duties, delays in software releases, etc.

Q: Why are the posted release dates only estimates?
A: Please be aware that, while we do our best to project accurate release dates, all release dates are indeed "estimated" and can change for a variety of reasons outside of Manning's control, including changes in the authors' professional schedules, delays in future software releases and other factors. We will make every effort to keep new chapters flowing as quickly as possible, but we appreciate your patience when delays do occur.

Q: How do I know when new chapters are released?
A: When new chapters are released all MEAP subscribers to that title will receive an email with an updated download link. We also provide several other ways for you to learn when new chapters are released. You can choose to check our website occasionally or get automated notices.

Q: What are my options with MEAP?
A: With MEAP books, you get Early Access to electronic chapters for no extra charge. You choose the format of the final product: PDF ebook only, or you can also receive the paper book when it ships.

MEAP Ebook - Prefer electronic books? Start downloading available PDF chapters right away. When all chapters are finished, you will get the complete ebook edition with all final edits to the chapters plus other elements of the book: the table of contents, the index, and more. The ebook contains everything included in the finished print edition -- except the paper.

MEAP E+P - If you are traditional and like paper, choose the MEAP E+P package, which includes individual electronic chapters the complete ebook as above, plus a copy of the printed book, straight off the presses, shipped to you.

Q: Where can I order a MEAP book?
A: MEAP is only available through Manning.com.

Q: Will MEAP books have an Author Online Forum?
A: An Author Online forum is created for each MEAP book. Authors will monitor the forums for suggestions and errata from readers.

Q: Is there source code available during the MEAP?
A: In most cases there will not be source code available during the MEAP period. Authors are busy getting the book finalized and this includes the source code so often the final source code isn't available until the book is published. If source code is available it will be posted on the book's web page under "Resources".

Q: How do I post feedback and errata for a MEAP title? Will it help?
A: We welcome you to post any errata to the book's Author Online forum. Authors will be monitoring the forum for errata and if it is possible, they'll integrate it into the final draft. All errata is greatly appreciated!
